CALVARY EPISCOPAL CHURCH – SANCTUARY RENOVATION, RICHMOND
The renovation of the 1959 Sanctuary presented some unique challenges, including substantial differential settlement of the existing slab-on-grade foundation. This transformational project included foundation stabilization, balcony and masonry repairs, mechanical system upgrades, new roofing, additional building insulation, and improvements to roof and site drainage systems to address the differential settlement. The Sanctuary interior and related spaces were reimagined to provide a warmer and more inviting place for worship. New ceilings and lighting were introduced to brighten the Nave. The existing wood rafters were stripped of paint and refinished with stain to provide warmth, and the existing wood pews were refurbished and reinstalled over new porcelain tile flooring. The existing liturgical furnishings were modified and beautified to better support worship and harmonize with the renovated interior.
