Merriman Holt Powell seeks great design solutions by engaging our clients in a thoughtful, cooperative design process that begins with programming the requirements of the proposed project. During the programming process we seek to understand what makes our clients unique – their vision, their site and existing facilities, their neighbors, and their heritage. We identify special opportunities and challenges that might shape the design. We develop a clear idea of budget limitations and desired timeline for completion of the project. We encourage our clients’ participation in the design process, often engaging them in a “gaming” process to quickly test alternative options early in the design process. We seek out candid input, listening creatively for breakthrough ideas that might shape the design. We continue to work closely with our clients as we develop the design in increasing detail, updating the budget and schedule at each phase of design.
